The photo is decoded, drawn onto a clean canvas and encoded as a brand-new file. Embedded metadata is not copied.

The visible pixels may still reveal faces, documents, reflections, house numbers, vehicle plates or landmarks. Cleaning this file also cannot remove copies already uploaded elsewhere.

Does every photo contain GPS coordinates?
No. GPS must have been recorded and preserved by the camera, phone or editing software. Many messaging and social platforms also remove some metadata during upload.
Can the clean copy be proven to contain absolutely no metadata of any kind?
Image formats still need structural headers such as dimensions and color information. The Lab verifies that common privacy-sensitive blocks and known EXIF, GPS, XMP and IPTC markers are absent; it does not claim that the file contains literally nothing except compressed pixel bytes.
Why might a HEIC photo have no visual preview?
The metadata parser can understand formats that a particular browser cannot decode into pixels. In that case the report may work, but a clean copy requires a browser that can display the image or prior conversion to JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.
